After being our brave fighter for 20 years, Sam is no longer in pain. Samuel A. TeGrotenhuis passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, after a lifelong, strong fought battle with many medical conditions.
Sam was born February 27, 2003, at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee to Aaron TeGrotenhuis and Ericka (Liebelt) Sipiorski. He fought through multiple health issues, and at just three years old, Sam was able to get a new kidney thanks to his dad. Sam was an adorable and hilarious little boy who grew into a wonderful man with a wicked dry sense of humor. He had a smile that lit up the room, and he always told you what was on his mind.
Sam was a 2021 graduate of Oostburg High School. He worked at Mentink’s Market and was always appreciative of the flexibility that Mentink’s gave him with his health and numerous appointments. Sam loved going to the cabin with his dad, hunting, fishing, tinkering with anything he could, playing the Xbox, watching movies, and indulging in any “delicious” foods. He was the best big brother to his sisters and was always good with kids. Above all, he loved his family and spending time with them; from visiting Great-Grandpa and Grandma TeGrotenhuis when he could, hanging with his cousins, bumming with Grandpa Mike, and doing anything with Grandpa Mark (which usually involved being in the garage).
Sam is survived by his parents Aaron (Danielle Sturm) TeGrotenhuis and Ericka (Kasey) Sipiorski as well as his sisters Lucy and Molly TeGrotenhuis. He is further survived by his grandparents: Pam TeGrotenhuis and Mike and Alice Liebelt; aunts and uncles: Jill and Chriss Suess and Karl and Melissa Liebelt; cousins: Greta, Ruby, and Josh Suess and “his boys” Norman and Drew Liebelt; stepsiblings: Shantel, Trinity, and Natalie; many other extended family and friends.
Sam is now reunited with his grandfather and best buddy, Mark TeGrotenhuis. He is also preceded in death by his great-grandparents who he was lucky enough to spend time with, Wayne and Marion TeGrotenhuis, Dolores (Jonathon) Brill, Melvin and Lucille Gries and Ginny Liebelt.
A Memorial Service celebrating Sam’s life will be held at 5:00PM on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Wenig Funeral Home, 108 Center Ave. in Oostburg. Pastor Bill Ver Velde will officiate. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday from 3:00-5:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested.
The family would like to thank Dr. Trager and the CHW Renal team (Shelley, Dr. Pan, and Dr. VanWhy) for helping us be able to have 20 years with Sam. Thank you also to Jessica Murphy and the SIMA team for their support, to Grandma Pam, Grandpa Mike, Jim Krostag and Gary Hesselink, thank you for being the best personal cab service Sam could have asked for. We were overwhelmed by the prayers and support provided to Sam and our family throughout his life.
Sammy T, our miracle boy and superman – I love you forever, I like you for always, as long as I’m living my baby you’ll be. You were a wonderful blessing, and our lives are better because you were in it.
