Two persons have died as the result of a head-on crash early Sunday morning in rural Manitowoc County.
The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office said that their deputies, along with EMS and Fire personnel were called to the area of US Highway 10 and County Highway “G” in the Town of Cato at around 5:23 a.m. Sunday where they found the two vehicles involved. A preliminary investigation indicates that a 21-year-old Menasha woman was westbound on Highway 10 when she crossed over the center line, striking an eastbound vehicle driven by a 17-year-old Reedsville woman head-on.
The Menasha woman was declared dead at the scene, while the 17-year-old was flighted by ThedaStar Helicopter to ThedaCare Medical Center in Neenah where she was later pronounced dead. The two were the only persons involved in the crash, which remains under investigation while the Wisconsin State Patrol conducts a reconstruction of the incident.
The 17-year-old was a student at Reedsville High School, which will have grief counselors available for students beginning today.
