Restoration of communications continues at Prevea and Hospital Sisters Health Systems, which operates Sheboygan’s St. Nicholas Hospital. That network, as well as operating systems, had to be taken offline after a security breach that was detected back on August 27th. Patient care was not interrupted, but working around the outage has been complex, as phone access was very limited and the MyChart app was still not available as of early this Friday morning.
In an update on Thursday, Prevea said that Sheboygan area calls were being transferred from the main line, while western Wisconsin phone lines were back up, but not yet able to handle high call volumes.
While no word on any extent of compromised personal information was available, officials did confirm reports of people receiving suspicious emails, texts and phone calls claiming to be HSHS representatives seeking payment for services, and anyone receiving those should send that information to questions@hshs.org.
