A paraglider pilot apparently broke both legs and had to be located from the air when he went down on Monday.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office said they learned of the incident when the pilot called 911 at around 5:45 yesterday afternoon. He reported his crash into a cornfield near Highway 151 and County Road “K” in the town of Taycheedah. Deputies and first responders were dispatched to the area while the City of Fond du Lac Police Department drone team responded to look from the air. Deputies located the man in about 10 minutes and a nearby resident used his tractor to make a path for first responders to remove the pilot from the field. He was airlifted to Thedacare Hospital in Neenah with significant injuries.
The man was wearing a helmet; witnesses said they saw the glider lose altitude while its engine sputtered, and engine failure is considered a factor in the crash which remains under investigation.
