Keep your eyes on the road, but be aware that there are eyes in the sky watching for dangerous driving. The Wisconsin State Patrol is planning to do aerial surveillance operations over both Sheboygan and Dunn Counties today, weather permitting. I-43 will get the attention here, while I-94 will be monitored in Dunn County.
I-39 in Portage County will be monitored on Thursday; Highway 12 in Sauk County will be scrutinized on Friday. Operations move to I-41 in Washington County on Saturday, and on Sunday the State Patrol will be flying over I-94 in Eau Claire County.
The main purpose of the flights is to enhance public safety by enforcing traffic laws, and while aerial enforcement is only one tool, it’s much easier to spot aggressive drivers and speeders from above and then call a squad into action on the ground.
Even after flights move elsewhere, keep in mind that the ongoing “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign is underway through Labor Day in an enhanced effort to keep impaired drivers off the road.
