APPLETON, WI (WHBL) – Appleton East High School is walking back its welcome event for students of color.
The school district said on Monday that all students are now welcome at its back-to-school meet and greet. The district found itself in the spotlight last week after sending out an invitation for students of color to meet the principal and other school leaders.
But the district now says it wanted to clarify that the event is open to all students.
The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty threatened to sue Appleton Schools, saying that discrimination based on race is illegal in public schools.
