(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 11, 2023 – In just her third season behind the wheel of a 360 Sprint Car, Katelyn Krebsbach of Cascade has shown that she is right at home with the high speeds and close quarters wheel-to-wheel competition that are hallmarks of weekly Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car action at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis.
The recent Plymouth High School graduate, who is the daughter of former PDTR and Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint competitor John Krebsbach, burst onto the scene in 2021 by claiming the Midwest Sprint Car Association Rookie of the Year Award.
Growing up around racing, it is no wonder that Krebsbach found herself drawn to the excitement and flair of the sport as a youngster.
“I first became interested in racing after going to watch my dad race every Saturday night as a kid,” Krebsbach said. “I first became involved when I was about 10 years old, helping my dad work on the race car in the shop and became more involved as I got a little older and started going in the pits and helping down there.”
After getting her hands dirty while helping her father’s racing endeavors, Krebsbach launched her own racing career six years ago.
“I started racing Go Karts in Dousman with the Badger Kart Club in 2017,” Krebsbach said. “Later on, I joined the karting club at Road America. I raced Go Karts for four years before moving up to a Sprint Car. I started in the Briggs LO206 class and the Sportsman Animal class.”
In 2021, Krebsbach followed in her dad’s footsteps by debuting in the No. 08 360 Sprint Car with the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing and Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Cars.
While some drivers might prefer the finesse and reduced speeds involved with racing on smaller tracks, so far Krebsbach has shown plenty of prowess on the largest and highest speed track on the MSA schedule.
“My career highlight so far came at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam last September,” Krebsbach said. “I ended up placing third in the feature after jumping Bill Taylor’s right rear tire and breaking the front left shock off, along with pushing the motor plate back so my throttle was stuck wide open. It was such a fun race on a very fast track. Along with that, I currently have one heat race win in the 360 Sprint Car division, which came last year at Wilmot Raceway.”
Through the first 12 weeks of the PDTR 360 Sprint Car season, Krebsbach stands 13th in the point standings with one top-10 and six top-15 A-main finishes, along with topping a 25-car PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car field to claim fast qualifier honors on June 17.
“My goals for the rest of the 2023 season are to keep moving forward in placement and feeling more comfortable in the car along with winning a couple more races,” Krebsbach said.
Regardless of how she finishes on the track, Krebsbach says the fans who support the races at the Plymouth Dirt Track always bring a smile to her face.
“The thing I enjoy most about racing at Plymouth is most definitely the fans,” Krebsbach said. “Meeting the fans afterwards is the most enjoyable part of the night. Seeing how happy they become after getting an autograph is the most rewarding part after a tough night.”
In reflecting on her attraction to racing, Krebsbach enjoys taking on the challenges of pushing herself to improve and adjusting to changing track conditions.
“Overall, what I like most about racing is the adrenaline that runs through my body during each race,” Krebsbach said. “I also like the challenge of adjusting to the differences in each track we go to and learning how to run it makes it so much fun.”
Away from the race track, the 2023 Plymouth High School graduate is looking forward to furthering her education in the business field.
“I am currently attending Moraine Park Technical College in the business management program with intent to further my degree after the program is finished,” Krebsbach said.
Crew members for the 2023 Katelyn Krebsbach Racing Team are John Krebsbach, Jackie Krebsbach, Perry Kalista, Jimmy Jensen, Treyton Malnory and Chase Ertel.
The 2023 sponsors for the Katelyn Krebsbach Racing Team include Krebsbach Construction/Outdoor Robotics, KW Electric, Oostburg Lumber, Covenant Plumbing and Heating, Shorewest Realtors-Laura Jensen, Plexus Worldwide-Lisa Malnory, Falls Cafe and Jensen Sales & Service.
