The body of a paddle-boarder who went missing last Wednesday off Harrington Beach State Park was recovered this morning.
The Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office reported that the body of the 49-year-old woman was located by a fisherman off the coast of Port Washington shortly after 10:00 a.m. this (Tuesday) morning. Preliminary investigation revealed that this is the person who was the subject of a nearly week-long search.
The Sheriff said that with the assistance of its Emergency Management Rescue Boat and the Port Washington Fire Department Rescue & Dive team, the victim was recovered and positively identified as Teresa Stiff of Mukwanago. The investigation remains open pending autopsy results, however the cause of death appears to be an accidental drowning.
Condolences were extended by the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office to the family, and credit given to agencies that assisted in the search and recovery efforts, including the US Coast Guard, Ozaukee County Emergency Management Rescue Boat, Belgium Fire Department, Port Washington Fire Department, Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office Maritime Unit, Milwaukee Police Department Harbor Patrol, Sheboygan county Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin DNR, Royal Canadian Coast Guard, Cedar Grove Fire Department, Oostburg Fire Department, Port Washington Police Department, and Bruce’s Legacy Search and Rescue which continued the search until the discovery this morning.
