Sheboygan County Sheriff
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office has been called to lead an investigation into an officer-involved shooting in Neenah.
Lake Winnebago Area MEG Unit officers were trying to take a 37-year-old man who had warrants for his arrest into custody a little before 5 p.m. on Wednesday at a Neenah gas station. The man was inside the station when confronted by officers, and preliminary investigation suggested the man displayed a weapon, prompting the officers to use deadly force and shoot the man. He was given medical attention at the scene before being taken to Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah where he died of his injuries. No officers were hurt during the incident.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office was asked to lead the investigation in order to provide an outside, transparent investigation since agencies from Outagamie, Winnebago, Fond du Lac and Calumet Counties along with the Wisconsin Department of Justice are all part of the Winnebago Area MEG Unit that was seeking the man’s arrest.
As the investigation is ongoing, no more details will be provided until later today.
