A fire caused major damage to an Elkhart Lake area home on Thursday evening. The Elkhart Lake and Glenbeulah Fire Departments were sent to a home in the N7000 block of Little Elkhart Lake Road in the Town of Rhine shortly after 7 p.m. where heavy smoke was coming from the home. Crews from as far away as Kiel, St. Cloud, Howards Grove and Waldo…15 fire departments in all…quickly responded as well and had the fire extinguished within 10 minutes of arriving. Crews then located and safely recovered the family pet, and stayed on the scene for several hours doing overhaul, ventilation and clean-up.
The Sheboygan County Fire Investigation team confirmed initial reports that the fire started in the kitchen, but the exact cause remains under investigation.
