Daniel “Redneck” Leo Wollner, age 71, of Plymouth, WI passed away after a courageous battle with
cancer on Thursday, July 13, 2023 with his loving daughters and wife supporting him.
He was born on April 16, 1952 in Port Washington, WI, a son of the late Francis and Betty (Biever)
Wollner.
He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Grafton and graduated from Grafton High School in
1970. He then graduated from Fox Valley Technical School in 1972. Soon after, he was one of the
last few men to be drafted into the United States Army from Ozaukee County. In the Army, he
served with the 8th Signal Battalion for two years in Germany. He was honorably discharged as a
Sergeant on August 9, 1974, so he could go home and marry his fiancée, Barbara Nisleit, eight days
later. Dan was united in marriage to the love of his life, Barb, on August 17, 1974 at St. Joseph’s
Catholic Church in Grafton.
Dan worked many jobs throughout his life, starting as a USDA Soil and Conservation Service
Technician, which moved Dan and Barb to Redgranite. He was also a union carpenter and garage
door installer, and spent the last 19 years of his career working in the shipping department at
Bemis Manufacturing. In 1986, he and Barb moved to Plymouth. Together, they kept themselves
busy raising their two girls and being their grandchildren’s biggest fans by attending many
sporting, dance, and musical events. Dan was a man of great faith, a man who provided for and
encouraged his family in all things. He was a good friend to many and would always light up any
room he entered. Dan faced his life’s challenges with bravery and extreme courage. He often
commented that he was blessed by God. Dan was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in
Plymouth. He was also a member of the American Legion and the NWTF Northern Kettles Chapter
and in 2003 he started the Learn to Hunt Turkey Program, which is still going strong today thanks
to the great mentors he had. Dan loved being in the woods hunting, working on his flower gardens,
and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by: his wife of 48 years, Barbara Wollner of Plymouth; two daughters, Lana
(Matthew) Spranger of Greendale and Dana (Mitchell) Reimer of Cascade; four grandchildren, Ana
