Sherry A. Sommer, age 68, of Sheboygan passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday,
July 9, 2023, at her home.
She was born in Sheboygan on May 13, 1955, to the late Kenneth and Joanne (Kuester) Wiltzius. She
graduated from South High School. On September 7, 1974, Sherry was united in marriage to Mark
Sommer at St. Andrews Church in Sheboygan. She was employed at Wigwam Mills for 28 years, retiring
in 2013.
Sherry enjoyed fishing, camping, and celebrating family holidays. She also liked to vacation to Florida in
the spring and the Smoky Mountains in the fall. The special one on one vacations with her daughter was
also a favorite pastime of Sherry’s. Their unbreakable mother/daughter bond was evident to all who
knew them. Spending the weekends at the family cabin left everlasting memories that will be thought of
often. Family meant the world to her and she loved making many memories with her loved ones. She
was the best friend to her granddaughters, as they were her pride and joy. She will be missed by all who
knew her.
She enjoyed spending time with her numerous exotic animals.
Sherry is survived by her loving husband of almost 49 years, Mark; daughter, Tammy (Fred) Darling;
granddaughters, Amanda (Carlos) and Cheyanne Darling; siblings, Larry (Barbara) Wiltzius, Steve (Dawn)
Wiltzius, Mike (Kris) Wiltzius and Dawn Cox; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Along with her parents, Sherry was preceded in death by a brother, Gary (Diane) Wiltzius.
A Memorial Service for Sherry will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, July 14, 2023, at Zimmer Westview
Funeral & Cremation Care Center, W2132 Garton Rd in Howards Grove. Family will greet visitors on
Friday at the funeral home from 2:30 PM until the time of the service.
The family would like to thank the staff at both Froedtert Hospital and the Medical College of Wisconsin
for the excellent care given to Sherry. Mark would also like to thank Tammy, Amanda, and Cheyanne for
the exceptional care and comfort given to ensure Sherry could stay at home.
