Two persons are looking for a new place to live after their apartment was struck by fire on Friday afternoon. Sheboygan Fire Department crews arrived at the scene in the 1300 block of North 8th Street shortly before 4:30 to find heavy smoke coming from the roof. Active fire was found on the first floor, which houses a business, as well as the second-floor apartment and attic. It took crews from ten responding SFD units about two hours to knock down the fire and another four hours to open walls and extinguish hot spots. Units from the Town of Sheboygan, Town of Wilson and Village of Kohler also assisted in the operation.
Nobody was in the building when the fire broke out and the apartment was declared unlivable after the blaze. Two firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion but later returned to continue their duties and nobody else was hurt. Loss is estimated at $175,000 and the cause remains under investigation.
