FLUSHING, NY (WHBL) – The Milwaukee Brewers edged the New York Mets 2-1 in their series opener from Flushing on Monday night.
Colin Rea earned the win after surrendering one run on three hits over six-plus innings. Milwaukee’s bullpen didn’t allow a hit for the rest of the game as Devin Williams notched his 14th save of the season in the ninth inning.
Joey Wiemer crushed a go-ahead, two-run homer in the sixth inning to help the Brewers improve to 41-37 with the victory. Milwaukee is back in first place in the NL Central after the Cincinnati Reds lost to Baltimore.
Francisco Lindor drove in the lone run for New York, which fell to 35-43. The Mets are fourth in the NL East.
