High school graduation will have to wait for Charles Loeffler, even though he’s already completed his first college degree. That’s because he and his fellow classmates don’t graduate until next June at Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah High School. The information technology-web development specialist earned his college diploma through Lakeshore Technical College’s “College Here and Now” program, a course through which high school students can earn their college credits while in high school, tuition-free. Loeffler began pursuing his degree in his sophomore year, and 292 students attending eight area high schools are now doing the same.
The degree Loeffler holds required earning 22 college credits, and he said he’d “definitely recommend” others use the opportunity to get the same head-start. He said he now feels better prepared for what’s to come after his senior year which, for Loeffler, means becoming a software engineer.
