Drought has returned to Sheboygan County and much of southern Wisconsin, and unless patterns change the National Weather Service expects drier-than-usual conditions to persist. For about the northwest third of Sheboygan County, abnormally dry conditions remain in place as they have been for the past few weeks. However the southeast two-thirds of the county have progressed into a moderate drought.
After April fell short on moisture in Sheboygan County, May followed suit with only .83” of rain, compared with a normal 3.35 inches for the month. June hasn’t been any different, with only .11” out of a normal 1.13 inches of rainfall expected by this point.
While the Climate Prediction Center expects warmer, and drier-than-usual weather to continue for the remainder of June, July and August, for now, are predicted to see closer to normal temperatures and rainfall. But it will take a wetter-than-normal stretch to make up for lost moisture, and right now that doesn’t look likely until autumn at the earliest.
