A man suspected of committing “internet crimes against children” was shot and wounded by an Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Deputy during his apprehension on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred in the N6700 block of Ozaukee County Highway “E” between Jay Road and Pioneer Drive in the Town of Fredonia, about five miles southwest of the Village of Random Lake.
Ozaukee County Sheriff Christy Knowles said in a release at 11 a.m. on Wednesday that Officers attempted to serve a felony search warrant in regards to an internet crimes against children investigation at a residence at that location. During the arrest attempt a struggle ensued, and the male suspect armed himself with what was described as “an edged weapon” and was shot by a detective. Per Ozaukee County policy and procedure, the Ozaukee County Detective who fired his weapon was placed on administrative leave.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital and is reported in serious condition. An Ozaukee County Detective, not necessarily the one firing the shot, was also injured during the incident and was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The event has now been turned over to the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation.
