People living in Sheboygan Tax District #4 may see someone looking around at their property this week, and the City of Sheboygan wants you to know what it’s about. Those people are likely doing what’s called a walk-around tax inspection, part of a process that’s required by the State Department of Revenue to keep property tax assessments within 10% of full market value.
The process has already been completed for Districts 1,2, 6, and commercial properties, and now District 4, that area of Sheboygan south of Georgia Avenue and west of South 12th Street has its turn. Inspectors from Grota Appraisals will be measuring and listing exteriors and taking photos, while all other buildings like sheds and garages will be verified for size and condition. All that info will be used to estimate a new property value for tax purposes which won’t become effective until January 1st of 2024.
Inspectors will be wearing a badge with a photo ID, and implied consent will be assumed unless written refusal is provided to the City Assessor.
