The disappearance of a five-year-old from his yard two decades ago is being remembered this week in east-central Wisconsin. It was 40 years ago on Monday that Robert, or “Bobby Joe” Fritz, went missing. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office reminded the public of the still-unsolved case that remains the subject of an ongoing search for information. They also noted appreciation for their partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children which is also making note of the anniversary of Fritz’s disappearance.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Fritz was last seen playing outside his Campbellsport home with siblings on May 14th of 1983 when he went missing. Fritz has a 2-by-3 inch red birthmark on his outer left thigh above his knee, and at the time had trouble pronouncing the letters “T”, “K” and “R”.
Anyone with information is being asked to call Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Detective Eric Muellenbach at 920-929-3399, the Fond du Lac County Law Enforcement Tip Line at 920-906-4777, or the Wisconsin Clearinghouse for Missing & Exploited Children & Adults at 1-800-843-4673.
