Sheboygan Fire Department crews had a busy day dealing with two significant house fires on Tuesday; the first before people left for work and school, and the second after most went to bed.
Shortly after 10:30 Tuesday night a 911 call came in to the Sheboygan County Emergency Communications Center reporting a structure on fire with one person trapped on the roof of the home in the 1900 block of South 13th Street.
The first of the responding units arrived within four minutes to encounter heavy fire coming from the second story of the home and located the person on the roof, whom they immediately rescued. That person had minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The next arriving unit entered the home with hose lines to begin what was described by SFD Division Chief Nic Noster as “an aggressive fire attack”, and searched the residence for any additional persons, of which there were none.
It took some 90 minutes for the fire to be completely put out, during which one firefighter sustained minor injuries which were treated on-site. Crews remained to conduct salvage and overhaul, while the American Red Cross was contacted to assist the tenant.
The home was declared unlivable at this time with damage estimated at $75,000, and the cause remains under investigation.
