A sudden burst of seven individual lane or road closure announcements was released Wednesday by the the City of Sheboygan, one as short as one day, many scheduled for completion sometime in June. All are due to infrastructure repairs being undertaken by the DPW.
In no particular order, those projects include:
. A one-day lane closure that will prevent access to Riverfront Drive from South 8th Street on Friday, April 28th. Traffic on Riverfront Drive, however, will have access to South 8th, and no other traffic on that street will be affected.
. The Closure of Greenfield Avenue from South 18th to South 13th Streets for the duration of a project beginning on Monday, May 1st. The work includes milling the existing surface, repairing storm sewers, installing sidewalk ramps and resurfacing the street with new asphalt. Local access will be maintained except for Monday and Tuesday (May 1 & 2) when milling will take place. A date for new paving hasn’t been set, but the project should be complete sometime in June.
. Construction on Long Court from North 2nd Street eastward to the dead-end will begin on Tuesday, May 2nd, and is expected to last until sometime in June. The project involves milling the concrete surface and replacing it with asphalt, while replacing various curbs and gutters. Again, local access will be maintained while through traffic will be diverted for the duration except for Tuesday, May 2nd and a date to be determined when the new asphalt is laid.
. Wiemann Avenue between Saemann Avenue and Garden Court is scheduled to fully close for up to two days beginning Tuesday, May 2nd, and through traffic will be diverted for the duration – which again is expected sometime in June. By then, crews will have milled the existing asphalt, replaced various storm sewer inlets and sidewalk ramps, and repaved the surface with new asphalt.
. Construction to complete sewer repairs on North 25th Street between the Kohler Memorial Drive Frontage Road and Superior Avenue will require northbound traffic to detour using Kohler Memorial Drive, North 23rd Street, and Superior Avenue beginning Monday, May 1st. Meanwhile, southbound traffic on that stretch will be restricted to one lane only. That project is scheduled for a May 8th completion.
. For two weeks, between North 9th and 10th Streets, four downtown Sheboygan Avenues adjacent to each other – New York, Wisconsin, Niagara and Ontario – will undergo construction beginning Monday, May 1st. On that day only, full closures will be imposed for pavement milling, and afterwards local traffic only will be granted access while crews repair sanitary and storm sewers, and place new asphalt. Also, the intersection of 9th and Wisconsin Avenue will close for two weeks during sewer repairs. All work should wrap up by the end of May.
. Finally, Construction on Highland Terrace from North 8th to North 6th Streets, and on North 7th Street from north Avenue to its dead-end two blocks to the north, is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 2nd. Those streets will be fully closed for milling of the existing concrete and asphalt on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 2nd and 3rd, and afterwards will remain closed to all but local traffic while crews replace various curbs and gutters and repave the surface with new asphalt. That project is slated for completion sometime in June.
