The Wisconsin DNR is advising the public to stay vigilant due to high fire danger. The combination of dry vegetation, warm temperatures, hot sun and windy weather has put southern and much of central Wisconsin, including Sheboygan County, in a “Very High” danger of fires that could easily and quickly grow out of control. The northern part of state, roughly north of Highway 29 where there’s snow, is in much better position to avoid fire.
The DNR doesn’t require burn permits in our part of the state. However for now until Friday when weather should improve, you’re being strongly advised to avoid all outdoor burning. Use power equipment like lawn mowers and off-road vehicles early in the morning or late in the day to avoid peak trouble times, secure any chains so they don’t drag from a vehicle, and call 911 right away if you spot a fire.
