A Sheboygan Falls tavern that has established itself as a highly-rated “come-as-you-are” place to gather has been chosen as one of five businesses statewide in a makeover contest.
“Cap’s Tap” is hoping it will rise to the top in the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation’s “Main Street Place-Makeover Contest”. The winner will receive up to $5,000 in matching funds from the WEDC to improve their business.
According to contest officials, Cap’s has underused side and rear yard space around their historic building, which currently features little more than a chain link fence surrounding what they hope will become an attractive outdoor addition to the venue. The owners have so far removed overgrowth and graded the site, but are looking for help to make the most out of the uniquely-shaped space in a way that will complement similar improvements to other neighborhood restaurants with outdoor patios.
Cap’s is a member of Sheboygan Falls Chamber Main Street, which combines the Chamber of Commerce and the Main Street of America Program which helps strengthen communities through preservation-based economic development in older and historic downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts.
Other nominees are from Green Lake, Eagle River, Cassville and Three Lakes. The winner is expected to be announced soon by the WEDC.
