Public vending machines that distribute test strips for Fentanyl and Narcan to reverse opioid overdose will be considered during today’s meeting of the Sheboygan County Board Law Committee.
The proposal to supply those machines comes from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, which is requesting applications to receive the units. The money for the machines comes from the settlement with the nation’s three major pharmaceutical distributors connected to the surge in overdose deaths from Oxycodone. The goal is to reduce overdoses and associated deaths and improve the quality of life for people who use drugs by providing free “low barrier access” to the life-saving supplies.
The deadline for the County to apply for the vending machines is April 21st. If the committee approves, the proposal to receive the machines would be dealt with at the April 18th County Board meeting.
