Marilyn J. Wirtz, age 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Shores of
Sheboygan.
She was born in Sheboygan on April 22, 1934, to the late Arno and Lillian (Stange) Thiel. Marilyn
was married to the late Charles Wirtz for 17 years, and they shared four children together. She
was employed at St. Nicholas Hospital for over 25 years, retiring as the supervisor of
housekeeping.
Marilyn enjoyed playing games and communicating with family members on the computer,
doing various craft nights with her sister, mom and aunt, playing cards and bingo, going out to
eat, especially breakfasts with her brother Ronnie, traveling and “bumming”, and loving on her
cats, Puffy and Muffy. Marilyn loved making memories with her family and taking care of her
grandchildren. She always offered a smile to everyone she met. Her laugh and great sense of
humor will be deeply missed.
Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Kathleen (James) Stache of Sheboygan, Deborah Wirtz of
Sheboygan and Wendy (David) Larsen of Denmark; grandchildren, Aaron (Tonya) Wirtz, Jeremy
Wirtz, Jeffrey (Christina) Schultz, Mellissa (Chad) Runge, Anthony (Sara) Larsen, Ryan Schultz
and Amanda (Justin) Lindert; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Wirtz, Keegan Runge, Sophia Runge,
Molly Mueller, Ryleigh Wirtz, Jackson Runge, Avery Runge, Allison Larsen, Logan Larsen, Cole
Lindert, Lilliana Larsen, and Melina Schultz; a brother, Arno Thiel Jr.; nieces, nephews, other
family and friends.
Along with her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by a son, Rick Wirtz; siblings, Ronald
(Patricia) Thiel, Jerome (Loretta) Thiel and Nancy Thiel and a sister-in-law, Sue Thiel.
A Memorial Service for Marilyn will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Ballhorn
Chapels, 1201 N 8 th St. in Sheboygan with Rev. Gregory Whelton officiating. Family will greet
visitors on Tuesday, at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Marilyn’s
service will be livestreamed on her obituary page on the funeral home website,
www.ballhornchapels.com. Marilyn will be laid to rest at Wildwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Marilyn’s name.
