The man who became known as the “Official Track Historian” of Elkhart Lake’s Road America has passed away. Tom Schultz, who had made his home in Wauwatosa according to his daughter, was in the Dominican Republic when he died of Pulmonary Fibrosis.
In a news release from Road America on Monday, Schultz was remembered for his history and love of motorsports that made him a “natural fit to serve voluntarily as the Official Track Historian at Road America”, a race course which Schultz had documented over the course of several decades. Schultz penned several books in his years, some celebrating the history of Road America, excerpts of which can be found on the Road America website. His dedication to preserving the history of Road America earned him the coveted Governor’s Cup award distinction, and according to RA officials, “leaves a legacy that will forever be remembered.”
Schultz’s daughter, Kris, has organized a GoFundMe page in order to pay over $65,000 in medical bills, some of which are required before the Dominican Government will allow his return to the U.S. If you’d like to help, then follow this link.
