Tree removal operations will require closure of a well-used south side street. The Sheboygan Department of Public Works announced that South 18th Street will be closed between Humboldt and Washington Avenues between 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. both Wednesday and Thursday this week. That’s so that crews can safely remove several dying ash trees.
The operation is part of Sheboygan’s Urban Forestry program that began 7 years ago to manage around 5,000 trees affected by the Emerald Ash Borer in the City. Two years ago Sheboygan County counted some 17 million ash trees, most of which have now fallen victim to the invasive beetle that kills untreated trees within a few years.
