Lori Jean Schoen, 68, of Sheboygan, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023.
Born November 23, 1954 in Manitowoc, Lori was a daughter of the late Warren and Shirley Springstube Frasch. She briefly attended school in Manitowoc until her mother relocated to Sheboygan where she attended area schools and graduated from Sheboygan North High School Class of 72′.
In November of 1975, she was united in marriage to John R. Schoen.
Lori was an avid reader and loved books. Like her mother, she owned and operated a used/new book store; Book Lover’s Book Store in Plymouth for several years. She previously worked at American Orthodontics and the Book Boutique in Sheboygan. Lori was a published freelance writer of short stories and articles. She also wrote numerous jokes for Comedian Joan Rivers.
Lori loved animals, especially the dogs she rescued; Dusty, Gail, Jake, Beauty, Barney, Elmo, Chance, Tandy, and Monk whom she is now reunited with. Lori was a member of and donated to many charities, such as DAV (Disabled American Veterans), Defenders of Wildlife, IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare), Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, Delta Animal Sanctuary, Defenders of Animals Rights, The World Wildlife Fund, The Northshore Animal League of America, The Humane Society of the United States, The National Humane Education Society, other animal welfare organizations. In the past, she also frequently volunteered at multiple thrift stores in the Sheboygan County area.
Besides animals, Lori also enjoyed nature, metal detecting, motorcycles, movies, playing board/card games, and reading.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, John; her sisters, Sharon Romenesko (Joe Schwiner), Sandy Bauer, Sue and Barb, brothers; Steven (Hong) Frasch and Michael; Brother-in-law, Jimmy (Barbara) Schoen; sister in law, Maria Kanzelberger; Aunt, Judy (George) Jacob’s; many niece’s and nephew’s and her black lab, Murphy.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Martin Barts; step-mother, Jean Frasch; sister, Peggy Frasch; half-brother, Kevin Frasch; sister-in-law, Jeanne Wilson; brothers-in-law James Horneck, Theodore Schoen Jr., and Robert Kanzelberger; grandparents, Louis and Mary (Sayeski) Frasch and Clarence and Anna (Hopfengartner) Springstube; her in-laws, Helen and Theodore Schoen Sr.; and uncles, Lloyd (Dolores) Springstube and Richard (Beverly) Frasch.
According to her wishes, there will be no services. Interment will take place in Wildwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to make a donation to your favorite animal welfare organization.
The Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been entrusted with Lori’s arrangements.
