Donald H. Silvis, passed away on March 15 at Aurora Medical Center – Sheboygan County. He was 88 years old.
Donald was born June 24, 1934, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, the son of Henry and Cora (Herman) Silvis. He grew up in Sheboygan, graduating from Sheboygan North High School in 1952. He began his studies at the University of Iowa and went on to earn his undergraduate from John Brown University in Arkansas, and attended Moody Bible Institute, Chicago.
For two years, Donald proudly served his country in the United States Navy.
On July 27, 1968, he was united in marriage with Barbara Archer in Vienna, Austria. They shared over 54 years together.
For 36 years, Donald and his family resided in Vienna, Austria, where Donald served the Lord as a missionary with The Evangelical Allianz Mission (TEAM) and was involved in church planting and discipleship. They returned to the Sheboygan area to serve as lay minsters in 2002.
Donald was a member of Sheboygan Evangelical Free Church, where he served as elder and participated in the visitation ministry. He had lifelong interest in WWII history and was dedicated to researching his family of origin. He was an avid travel and nature photographer, and enjoyed long hikes in the Vienna woods. As a young adult growing up in Sheboygan, he was passionate about fishing and boating with friends on Lake Michigan.
Donald is survived by his wife, Barbara, and their two children: John, New York City and Andrew, based in Vietnam. He is further survived by his sister Marlene (Silvis) Georgia, and his brother-in-law, Stewart Georgia, Sheboygan, his nieces and nephews, Kris Slaughter, Ohio, Phil and Nikki Georgia, Illinois, Daniel and Flora Georgia, Hawaii and several close cousins.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, March 24, 2023, at Wenig Funeral Home, 108 Center Ave. in Oostburg. Pastors Dr. Gary Hylander and Jon MacDonald will officiate. All are welcome to view a livestream of the service on Donald’s obituary page at www.wenigfh.com .
The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 am-12:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Sheboygan Evangelical Free Church Mission Fund or TEAM Missions, Wheaton, IL.
Donald will be entombed at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
