The unemployment rate rose in Sheboygan and Sheboygan County to begin 2023, following trends seen over most of the state.
The Department of Workforce Development released data on Wednesday showing that Sheboygan County’s unemployment rate rose from 1.8% in December to 2.1% in January. That’s still a drop of 1/2 of 1 percent compared to January last year. Only three of Wisconsin’s 72 counties saw rates decrease or stay the same over the previous month.
For the City of Sheboygan, January’s unemployment rate rose from 1.9% in December to 2.2% in January. Last year the January rate was 2.7%. Statewide, unemployment rates rose in all of Wisconsin’s 35 largest cities over the month.
The Sheboygan County Metropolitan Area experienced a point-three percent rise over December last year, rising to 2.1% in January. That compares to 2.6% a year ago, and mirrors the month-over-month rise seen in all 12 Wisconsin metro areas.
