Winter weather may linger beyond its welcome, but construction season won’t wait and the first project in Sheboygan is poised to begin. The Department of Public Works announced on Monday that Broadway Avenue between South 7th and 14th Streets will be closed to through traffic beginning Monday, March 20th, while the intersection of 7th and Broadway will close Wednesday the 22nd. For those navigating that intersection closure the City will post a detour using High Avenue, South 8th Street and Georgia Avenue.
The closure is being done for a reconstruction project that includes new sanitary and storm sewer, new crosswalks and a new asphalt road surface. The entire project is scheduled to be completed this coming October, however all work and traffic impacts are weather-dependent and subject to change. As usual, officials are advising that drivers slow down and use caution in construction zones, and they appreciate the public’s patience.
While major projects are expected during warmer months, Sheboygan County will be unusually quiet from a state perspective; after spending years navigating Highway 23 construction the Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced on Monday that there are no DOT projects scheduled in Sheboygan County this year.
