Dennis Kapellen, age 84, of Plymouth, passed away on February 19, 2023, at the Waterford in Plymouth.
He was born in Plymouth on July 4, 1938, the only child of Edward and Ruth (Thierman) Kapellen.
Dennis graduated from Plymouth High School in 1956 and served in the Army National Guard.
In 1958, he married Sandra Steiner and together they raised three daughters: Valerie, Vickie, and
Virginia.
He was later married in 1984 to Andrea (Browning) DeSmidt and became stepfather to: Lisa, Richard,
and Lori.
Dennis worked many years at Borden’s until his retirement and was a member of Salem UCC in
Plymouth. Throughout his life he enjoyed: camping, fishing, spending time at the lake, going to Arizona,
grilling, and watching the Packers and Badgers.
He is survived by: His wife: Andrea; Three children: Valerie (Mark) Krueger, Vickie Gunderson, and
Virginia (Randall) Rortvedt all of Plymouth; Three stepchildren: Lisa DeSmidt of Plymouth, Richard
DeSmidt (significant other: Stacy) of Greenbush, and Lori DeSmidt (significant other: Mark) of Crystal
Lake; Grandchildren: Joe Krueger, Alex (Elyssa) Krueger, Jason Gunderson, Samantha (Justin) Richardson,
Stephanie Rortvedt (significant other: Trevor), Caitlyn Rabe, Meghan Rabe, Jenna DeSmidt, and Shawna
(Jeff) Reynolds; Great Grandchildren: Lily Krueger, Josiah Gunderson, Beckett Richardson, Reece
Richardson, and Bryce Baumann. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday (February 23, 2023) at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth.
Visitation will take place from 4:00-6:00pm, with a prayer service to follow at 6:00pm. Rev. James
Hoppert, Pastor of Salem UCC, will officiate and entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in the
Town of Sheboygan.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Dennis’ name.
