
Richard H. Martens, 68, of Sheboygan, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Aurora Medical
Center in Sheboygan. He was born December 29, 1954 in Sheboygan to the late Richard U. and
Hildegarde (Ernst) Martens. Richard graduated from Sheboygan South High School with the Class of
1973. He then went on to attend UW Madison for forestry and meteorology.
On August 23, 1980 he was united in marriage to Vicki Goetsch at St. Mark Lutheran Church in
Sheboygan. Richard worked for Piggly Wiggly Midwest until his retirement in 2011. He was a proud
union member with the Teamsters 662.
Richard had a passion for model railroading, and a member of the Lionel Train Collectors Club. He was
an experienced reporter for the National Weather Service out of Sullivan. Richard was an avid
outdoorsman, enjoying camping and spending time in Door County. He was also an avid Green Bay
Packer fan and collector of Packer memorabilia. His family was his pride and joy, he cherished all the
time they had together creating lasting memories.
Richard is survived by his wife Vicki of 42 years, daughter Krista (significant other Brian Fraley) Martens,
grandchildren, Karalynn Martens, Roselyn Smith, Tucker and Mattie Hahn, and Parker, Lincoln and
Nevaeh Fraley, brother Scott (Debbie) Martens, sister-in-law Bonnie (Stephen) Meyer, and nieces,
nephews, Andy (Michelle) Scheidegger, Stephanie Martens, Joshua (Michelle) Meyer, Jason and
Matthew Meyer, and Stephanie Goetsch, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his
parents, aunts and uncles.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Ballhorn Chapels Funeral &
Cremation Care Center, 1201 N. 8
th St., Sheboygan, with Pastor Tyler Werner officiating. Relatives and
friends may visit with the family on Saturday, January 28, 2023 from 11:00 AM until the time of service at
the FUNERAL HOME.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the MS Foundation in
Richard’s name.
