
John Ernest Hoppert, formerly of the Town of Sheboygan, age 90, was welcomed home January 2,
2023.
John was born in Sheboygan, WI, October 17, 1932, and graduated from Central High School in 1950.
He served as Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955.
John married Sharon Marie Arnst on November 8, 1958, and were blessed with two sons, Rev. James
Hoppert and Mark Hoppert.
John farmed the family Town of Sheboygan homestead from 1955 to 1967.
He was a 4-H leader and Farm Bureau member serving as a delegate to the state Farm Bureau
convention. John also served as delegate to the Sheboygan County Soil Conservation Service. He
became a Registered Sanitarian in 1967 working for the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture first as a
meat inspector and later as a food inspector, retiring in 1995. John was a charter member of the Town
of Sheboygan Planning Commission, serving many terms as Chairman. He retired from the commission
in 2008 after 45 years of service.
John was a member of Grace United Church of Christ and a former member of Zion United Church of
Christ where he was a Sunday School teacher, usher, and Consistory Board member.
John was an avid fisherman often traveling to northern Wisconsin and Canada for his hobby. He was a
huge fan of the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers and enjoyed studying World War II history.
John is survived by his wife, Sharon Hoppert; sons, Rev. James (Abby) Hoppert and Mark (Larry
Santiago) Hoppert; grandsons, John Michael Hoppert and James ‘Drew’ Hoppert; sister Ann (James)
Keller; nephews/nieces including Jeff (Jeff Wilke) Miller, Bonnie (Dennis) Cain, Randy (Penney) Miller,
Steven (Annie Jurczyk) Miller, Frederic Hoppert, Jr, Jonathan (Karen) Hoppert, David Hoppert, Philip
(Mary Ellen) Hoppert, Chris Poppert, Mardyth (William) Pollard, Laurel (Curt) Joa, Mary (Dan) Swanson,
and Anne (Jeff Olson) Beihoffer.
He was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Hanna (Proehl) Hoppert and step-mother Leona
(Kilbourn) Hoppert; brothers Frederic (Vi) Hoppert and Martin (Edyth) Hoppert; sisters Harriet (Al)
Stickney and Kathryn (Dale) Beihoffer; sister-in-law Joyce Miller, and brothers-in-law Ronald Arnst and
Norbert Miller.
A Funeral Service for John will be held at NOON on Monday, January 9, 2023, at Ballhorn Chapels, 1201
N 8 th St. in Sheboygan with Rev. Beth Petzke officiating with military honors to follow. Visitation will be
at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of service. John will be interned at
Greenlawn Memorial Park, Garden Terrace Mausoleum, Kohler, WI. For those who cannot attend the

The family would like to thank the staff at Harvest Home, Rocky Knoll Healthcare Center and Sharon S.
