CLERMONT, Fla. (WTAQ-WLUK) — The man who caught the game-winning touchdown pass in the first game ever played at what is now known as Lambeau Field has died, according to the Green Bay Packers.
Gary Knafelc, the Packers former tight end, died early Monday morning in Florida, where he and his wife lived for the last decade.
Knafelc played for the Packers from 1954 to 1962 before becoming the public address announcer in 1964 — a position he kept for over 40 years.
He was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame during his years as an announcer, in 1976.
Knafelc was one of two remaining starters from Vince Lombardi’s first game — Jerry Kramer is now the only surviving starter.
