The purse strings on Wisconsin’s budget will again be held in part by Oostburg Republican Representative Terry Katsma. The appointment was made on Monday by Assembly Speaker Robin Vos for Katsma to serve a third term on the committee, but this time in the elevated position of Vice-Chair.
Upon his appointment, Katsma released a statement saying: “It is my great privilege to be entrusted to serve the people of Wisconsin in a new role on the Joint Finance Committee.” And with conservatives already having left their print on the budget, Katsma said in his statement that “I believe in the reforms that have led our strong recovery and record growth over more than a decade; and I am eager to keep building upon these successes in the upcoming legislative session.”
Any bill involving money that’s introduced in either the State Assembly or Senate must first gain approval of the JFC in order to qualify for passage. Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu, also of Oostburg, has yet to name his members of the committee, and minority Democrats have yet to name their memberships.
