Sheboygan Firefighters were able to rescue a person trapped by fire on a second-floor rear porch of their home before extinguishing the blaze.
Assistant SFD Chief Michael Lubbert says the call came in at around 7 a.m. on Friday morning indicating a residential structure fire in the 500 block of Geele Avenue with one person trapped on the rear porch.
When firefighters arrived they encountered flames showing from the front of the residence, and immediately rescued the lone occupant of the home from that rear porch using a ground ladder. Meanwhile, another crew entered the structure with a hose line to extinguish the fire on the first floor.
A total of 10 units responded to the fire, one of them reporting smoke and heat on the second floor. Using a thermal imaging camera, it was determined that fire had spread into the second-floor walls, and crews remained on the scene, needing around an hour and a half overall to pull ceilings and interior walls in order to extinguish the hot spots.
No injuries were incurred during the operation and the Red Cross is assisting the occupant who was displaced from the residence. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and initial estimates put the loss at $60,000.
