Dolores Marie (Mueller) Cain, age 96, of Elkhart Lake, WI, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2022
surrounded by her loving family at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center where she was a resident for the past
three years.
She was born on October 28, 1926 in Bear Valley, WI, born to the late Henry and Regina (Schmitz)
Mueller. She graduated from St. Mary’s School in Keyesville, WI.
On October 1, 1947, she married John Cain at St. Ann Catholic Church in St. Anna, WI. They lived in
Elkhart Lake all their married life. John preceded her in death in 2007.
Dolores belonged to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Elkhart Lake. She sang in the church choir for
many years, belonged to the Christian Women. She made quilts, especially baby quilts, for families,
friends and Angel Hugs.
She worked at the Elkhart Lake School District for 16 years after her children were older until her
retirement. She then volunteered at Rocky Knoll, also serving on Cameo Quilts for service men.
Over the years she enjoyed her annual bus trips with John, bowling, playing the piano, putting puzzles
together, and doing word finds. Her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren were a joy to her and she
enjoyed baking many cookies to keep the cookie jar full.
Survivors include her six children, Kathleen (Robert) Hanke of Plymouth, Michael (Sandra) Cain of Elkhart
Lake, JoAnn (Dennis) Streblow of Elkhart Lake, William (Kristine) Cain of Victoria, MN, Karen (Daniel)
Schmahl of Elkhart Lake, Daniel (Melanie) Cain of Elkhart Lake; 12 grandchildren, Andrew (Jenna
Albrecht) Hanke, John (Jen Bender) Hanke, Erin Lowell, Jennifer (Ryan) Williams, Matthew Cain (special
friend Tina), Wendy (Ronald) Osero, Kerry (Troy) Wenzel, Gwendolyn (Stephen) Maass, Jacob (Allison)
Schmahl, Brennen, Taylor, and Trevor Cain; 15 great-grandchildren, Atheana (Branden)Zinzer, Ariannah,
Azaleia, Antigoney, and Avealine Albrecht-Hanke, Sophia Lowell, Isabella and Julia Cain, Mackenzie and
Molly Williams, Anne and Louis Osero, Eliott and Natalie Wenzel, and William Maass; two sisters, Rita
Slezak – Lachmund and Marian Mauer; and sisters-in-law, Betty Mueller, Audrey Cain, Patricia Cain, and
Rose Ann Winkel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; sisters, Bette Lehmann and Imelda Barry; brothers,
Ambrose Mueller and Raymond (Vi) Mueller; and brothers-in-law, Robert Mueller, Phil Slezak, Carl
Lachmund, Harold Lehmann, Jack Barry, Gene Steber, Harold Cain, Patrick Cain, Francis Cain, Alfred
Winkel, infant Leo Cain; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Mueller and Lois Steber; grandson-in-law, Todd Lowell;
and granddaughter-in-law, Amanda Cain.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Sunday (November 20) at 1:00 PM at St. Thomas Aquinas
Catholic Church in Elkhart Lake. Father Philip Reifenberg will officiate. Burial will be at St. Thomas
Aquinas North Cemetery.
Visitation will take place on Sunday (Nov. 20) at the CHURCH from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Angel Hugs or Elkhart Lake First Responders in memory of
Dolores.
