Gary Joseph Hoell, age 80, died peacefully at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan on Tuesday,
November 8 th , 2022, surrounded by his loved ones. Gary was born November 12, 1941, in
Sheboygan, WI. He attended Holy Name School just as his children and grandchildren would
one day attend. He then went on to graduate from Sheboygan Central High School in 1959 and
chose a senior quote that holds the same light-hearted wit he would be loved by: “Handsome is
that handsome does”.
On February 23 rd , 1963, he was united in matrimony to Charlotte “Char” Hamann. Together, they
had four boys: Paul, Peter, James, and John. They lived and raised their sons together in
Sheboygan, WI. Throughout the many years of bringing up their boys and beyond, Gary was
always known to remark to Char, “Yes, Dear”.
Gary worked for many years as a Journeyman Glazier at Sheboygan Glass where he displayed a
large knack for problem solving and bringing people together — so much so that he would take
on the role of Shop Supervisor for the final ten years of his career. He retired at the age of 64.
Gary was a prominent member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church — a place he loved to
share in worship with his family. He also enjoyed spending time with loved ones, hunting with
his boys, dancing polka with Char, telling clever stories from his many adventures, admiring
Char’s lush garden, and sharing his love for food with others.
Gary wishes to be remembered by his never-ending love for life, his wife Char, and his family.
Gary was survived by his wife Char and his sons, Dr. Paul (Kristine), Peter (Anne-Marie), Dr.
James (Christine), and John (Kelly). He is further survived by his twelve grandchildren: Dr.
Marissa (Sean) Oberstadt, Caitlin (Matthew) Fedie, Logan, Connor (fiancée Kelsey), Zachariah
(Grace), Madeleine “Madi” (special friend Christian), Alexandria “Alex”, Josephine, Charles
“Chaz”, Macie, Bodie, and Emmit; step-grandchildren Kelsie and James Fedie; great-
grandchildren Garrett and Simon; brother Thomas “Tommy”; and sister-in-law Shirley Hoell,
nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: Alois “Sonny” (Dorothy), William “Bill”, Marion
(Jerry) Leisner, Lucille (James) Van Deelen, and Rosemary (Richard) Hermann.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Sunday, November 13 th , 2022 at 4 :00 PM at Holy
Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 818 Huron Ave. Sheboygan, with. Father Norberto Sandoval
officiating. Gary will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery at 10:00 AM on Monday, November
14 th , 2022. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Sunday, November 13 th , 2022 from
2:00 PM until the time of mass at the CHURCH. If you are unable to join the family for the
service, it will be live streamed on Gary’s obituary page on the funeral home website.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Gary’s name.
