Joyce C. Dekker, age 91, of Sheboygan, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2022, at Sheboygan Senior
Community where she had been a resident for the last two years. She was born in Sheboygan on
December 6, 1931, to the late Edward and Classina (Munnik) Verhage. After high school, Joyce went on
to graduate from Milwaukee County Nursing School in 1952.
On August 23, 1952, Joyce was united in marriage to Jacob Dekker. Jacob preceded her in death on June
19, 2010. They were faithful members of Bethany Reformed Church in Sheboygan, serving in many
capacities. For many years, Joyce was the organist, sang in the choir and was a part of the women’s
guild. She worked at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital in the 1-K until her retirement where she then
worked at Pine Haven for several years.
Joyce is survived by her children, Timothy (Katherine) Dekker, Steven (Trudy) Dekker, Heidi Horesovsky,
and Dale (Sara) Dekker; grandchildren, Emma, Rachel, Meg, and Kate; step-grandchildren, Stephanie,
Elizabeth, and Patrick; and 6 great step-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Along with her husband and parents, Joyce was preceded in death by a grandson Vadim Dekker; a sister
Kathleen (James) Baalke and a brother-in-law Clarence Kussard.
A Memorial Service for Joyce will take place at 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Bethany
Reformed Church, 1315 Washington Ave. in Sheboygan, with Rev. Steve Bakker officiating. Family will
greet visitors at church on Saturday from 2:00 PM until the time of the service. She will be laid to rest in
Union Cemetery in Oostburg.
Memorial donations can be made in Joyce's name to Bethany Reformed Church for music.
