The COVID-19 pandemic continues to be fading into some sort of “normalcy” as trends have steadied, and only incremental changes are seen in overall trends. Deaths due to covid are unlikely to ever be accepted as “normal”, though, and so the latest brings a reminder that regardless of how “everyday” the coronavirus has become, it is still a threat.
The most recent casualty was a resident at least 80 years old, and becomes the 283rd to die of COVID-19 from Sheboygan County during the pandemic.
Of the deceased, one was between 10 and 19 years old, one was in their 20s, six were in their 30s, nine were in their 40s, twenty-two were in their 50s, forty-six were in their 60s, seventy-four were in their 70s and one-hundred-twenty-four were at least 80 years old.
Within the past week another 94 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Sheboygan County, bringing that total to 33,632. 10 persons are now hospitalized, unchanged from last week, while total hospitalizations rose by 7 to 1,336.
The Sheboygan County Community Level from the CDC remains “Low”, although all counties bordering on the south and west are at a “Medium” level. The number of new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 persons over the last 7 days was 108.38, down nearly a point from the previous week. New admissions for COVID-19 treatment more than doubled from 4.1 per 100,000 last week to 9.4 this week. The 7-day average percent of staffed inpatient beds occupied by COVID-19 patients was 5.3% this week compared with 2.5% last week.
