Mary Ellen H. Schmidley, on October 20, 2022, moved into the arms of her beloved Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She hopes to see you there.
“ME” is survived by her siblings: Jane Schmidley, William III (Kristi), Robert (Kay), Richard (Cindy Campbell), John (Wendy); nieces and nephews William IV (Molly) Schmidley, Allison (Antonio) Rendon, Scott Schmidley (Patrick Witt), Andrew (Linda) Schmidley, Halie Jo (Paul) Schmulligan, Alexander Schmidley, Danielle (David) Hill, Keelan Schmidley, Jacob Schmidley, Nicholas Schmidley, Madalyn (Nathaniel) Syverson. Step children: Steve (Jessica) Hovde, Michelle (Paul) Babcock, Elisabeth Hovde, Kristin (Jeff) Flary. Step grandchildren: Dominick and Alexys Hovde, Mickalyn and Collin Babcock, Charlie, Max and Addie Grace Flary. Brother in-laws Robert (Cindy) Hovde, Randy (Le Anne) Hovde. She is further survived by numerous grand nieces and nephews. Mary Ellen also leaves behind her faithful Canine for Christ Therapy Dog Ruby Rose, and numerous friends whom she cared and prayed for.
“ME” is preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard L. Hovde, parents Grace and William II Schmidley, and baby sister Anne, Grandparents Joseph and Rose Hale, William and Ruby Schmidley, numerous Aunts and Uncles, In-laws Dorothy and Leland Hovde, Linda Pohlman, and Ronald Hovde. Also preceding her in death are her loving therapy dogs Martin and Lili Bear, undoubtedly, they were waiting for her in heaven.
Mary Ellen is a graduate of Green Bay East High School, UW LaCrosse and went on to work in Germany for the Department of Army as a Civilian (DAC) for several years as a Sports Director and Health Promotions, working with the children of the military families. Upon her return to the states Mary Ellen attended St. Catherine College in St. Paul to earn her degree in Nursing, during which time she worked as a massage therapist at Sister Rosalinds. In 2000 she reconnected with her beloved Rick at their 30 year class reunion and married on 02-02-02. Mary Ellen and Rick settled in Sheboygan Falls where she opened her business “Falls Salon and Spa” which she ran up until the time of her illness. As well as running her own business, she also taught swimming at Kohler Sportscore and Sheboygan Area Schools.
Mary Ellen was a lifetime student of many academic arenas. She was an actress (Peppermint Patty, Mrs. Claus, Easter Bunny, Mermaid, etc), a swimming instructor (most recently at Kohler Sportscore and Sheboygan Area School District), massage therapist (her business and Sportscore), Certified Humor Professional, Senior Olympian, Silver Sneaker, to name a few. She was involved in many community activities, participating in parades, triathlon, performing chair massages. She was a member of the Sheboygan Falls Kiwanis Club, Sheboygan Gun and Rifle Club, Chamber of Commerce and then some.
Mary Ellen admitted she was a sinner and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior on May 25, 1975. That decision opened a whole journey of servanthood, Bible study, mission trips to Cambodia and the Philippines, and loving her Lord and others. Mary Ellen dedicated her life to the Lord’s will.
When questioned what advice she would give for those she is leaving behind she responded “Love, Listen, Laugh, Read Your Bible, Give of Yourself, be of Service to the Lord, Forgive”.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 29th from 10 am – 12:00, with a Celebration of Life service to follow at Arise Church, 1707 Erie Ave, Sheboygan WI 53081. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sharon Richardson Hospice Center in Sheboygan Falls, Arise Church in Sheboygan, or Sheboygan Community Senior Center.
The family wishes to thank her many loving friends who have comforted her along this final journey, and the remarkable caregivers at Sharon Richardson Hospice Center and Sheboygan Senior Center for their loving kindness and unwavering strength. Mary Ellen has been truly blessed.
