Five Sheboygan County meat processors are among 91 recipients awarded a total of $10 million through the governor’s Meat and Poultry Supply Chain Resiliency Grants.
Governor Evers announced the awards on Wednesday along with DATCP Secretary Randy Romanski, saying that the meat industry has “…been core to our state’s economy for generations, and with this support, we’re going to help ensure this industry thrives for generations to come.”
The funds were made available through the federal American Rescue Plan Act, and awardees went through a competitive selection process to get the money, and select processors must match that 100%.
Locally, J&L Meat Sales of Sheboygan, Johnsonville, Miesfeld’s Triangle Market, the Random Lake Butcher Shop and Sheboygan Pasty Company were selected for awards. Johnsonville was given two of those, one for its Meadowside Coex Chill Zones and the other for its Countryside Large Batch Blending operations.
