A man standing outside his car in the dark on the roadside died of injuries suffered when he was struck by another vehicle on Saturday night.
Manitowoc County Sheriff Dan Hartwig said on Monday afternoon that they responded to the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at 8:51 p.m. on Saturday, October 1st on Manitowoc County Highway “X”, west of State Highway 67 in the Township of Schleswig.
The preliminary investigation indicates that 41-year-old Juan Ricardo Heredia of New Holstein was standing in the lane of travel on “X” outside of this 2003 Cadillac CTS, and that no lights were activated on the Cadillac when he was struck by a 2021 Chevrolet Traverse being operated by 26-year-old Kourtney Marie Gardner from rural Reedsville.
Neither Gardner, her passengers, nor a passenger in the Cadillac, were injured, and Heredia was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation according to the statement by Sheriff Hartwig who conveyed, on behalf of the Sheriff’s Office, “our deepest condolences to all those affected by this tragic incident.”
