MILWAUKEE, WI (WHBL) – The Milwaukee Brewers’ playoff hopes are on life support.
Freddy Peralta turned in four innings of two-hit ball but Miguel Rojas brought home the game-winning run in the top of the 12th on a base hit as the Miami Marlins won 4-3 on Sunday.
Miami built a 2-0 lead in the 7th. Milwaukee bounced back with an RBI groundout by Christian Yelich in the 8th and an RBI single from Kolten Wong in the 9th. That sent the game to the 10th tied at 2-apiece.
Both sides scored their placed runners in the 10th and failed to get a run across in the 11th.
Wong led the offense with two hits and an RBI.
A total of seven relievers followed Peralta. Trevor Gott was tagged with the loss.
As a result, the San Diego Padres clinch a spot in the postseason and reduced Philadephia’s magic number to one. The Phillies can book their spot in the playoffs with a win on Monday in Houston.
For Milwaukee to qualify they would need to sweep their final three games against Arizona and have the Phillies get swept by the Astros.
The Crew welcome the Arizona Diamondbacks to American Family Field for the final series of the regular season beginning Monday night. Pregame coverage on WHBL will begin at 6:05.
