MILWAUKEE, WI (WHBL) – The Milwaukee Brewers earned a split in their two-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals, winning by a score of 5-1 on Wednesday night at American Family Field.
With the Phillies loss to Chicago, the Brewers have pulled to within a half game of Philadelphia in the battle for the final NL wild card spot. The Phillies hold the tie-breaker between the two teams.
Brandon Woodruff was dominant again, throwing six shutout innings with 10 strikeouts. He set a Brewers record with his fourth straight game with 10 strikeouts or more.
The bullpen struggled a bit before Devin Williams worked out of jams in the 7th and 8th innings and Brad Boxberger pitched a scoreless 9th to preserve the win.
Thr Brewers were nursing a 2-1 lead before plating three runs in the 8th. Christian Yelich drew a pinch hit bases loaded walk and Victor Caratini had a two run double. The other RBIs went to Hunter Renfroe and Keston Hiura.
