Saint Francis of Assissi is known as the patron saint of animals, and on Sunday when Catholics around the world celebrate the feast day, a special observance will be held in Sheboygan.
In honor of the Feast of St. Francis, HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital will host a “Blessing of the Animals” event free of charge and open to the public. Other Hospital Sisters Health System locations in Green Bay and Oconto Falls will also be hosting events.
Hospital Sisters of St. Francis – their full title – follow the Saint’s life of love and service, and they’ll extend that service to pets of all kinds…and their people…during the observance at 1 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot west of the Chapel. Those attending should enter on Superior Avenue then proceed using the road around the parking lot to the Chapel entrance. Four-legged pets do need to be on a leash and their owners must clean up after them. Community members are also being invited to bring photos of their pets to be blessed.
