With the indoor season upon us, the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health is encouraging people to get boosted – again – for COVID-19.
The DPH says that anyone 12 and older is now eligible to receive the updated COVID-19 boosters that are now being administered at local pharmacies, health centers and clinics.
Public Health Officer Starrlene Grossman said that it’s especially important for people 50 and over, as well as those who are immunocompromised, to get the bivalent booster that protects against known strains of COVID-19 including the Omicron variant which was not well-addressed with the original vaccines. She also said that it’s now time for influenza vaccinations to protect those 6 months and older, and the shots can be had at the same time as for COVID.
Updated boosters are recommended as a single dose for those who’ve received their primary vaccinations. Those who received the Pfizer booster can be as young as 12, and those 18 and older are eligible for the updated Moderna booster. Children ages 5-11 continue to be eligible for the original booster, but one that addresses the Omicron variant has not yet been approved for that age group. It’s anticipated that a vaccine for those should be available in the coming months.
