MILWAUKEE, WI (WHBL) – The Milwaukee Brewers avoided getting swept at home, as they shut out the New York Mets 6-0 on Wednesday afternoon at American Family Field.
Willy Adames homered in the 6th inning to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead. It was his 31st homer of the season.
The Brewers scored five more in the 7th, highlighted by a pinch hit grand slam from Mike Brosseau. It came with two outs and two strikes after the Mets had walked Adames intentionally. Tyrone Taylor had the other RBI.
Adrian Houser started for Milwaukee and went 4.2 scoreless innings, limiting the Mets to three hits. The bullpen added 4.1 scoreless innings on just one hit. Hoby Milner, Trevor Gott, Brad Boxberger, Brent Suter and Jake Cousins worked for the Brewers with Gott getting credit for the win.
The Brewers, however, could not pick up any ground in the wildcard playoff chase as both San Diego and Philadelphia won. They remain 2 1/2 games behind the Phillies.
Milwaukee hits the road for four games in Cincinnati beginning Thursday night with pregame coverage on WHBL beginning at 5:05.
