MILWAUKEE, WI (WHBL) – Max Scherzer was perfect through six innings as the New York Mets topped the Milwaukee Brewers 7-2 on Monday night at American Family Field.
The Mets’ ace struck out nine and did not allow a base runner. He was pulled after six innings due to pitch count concerns. Pete Alonso slugged his 36th home run of the year with a three-run shot in the fourth inning to lead the Mets’ offense.
For the Brewers, Corbin Burnes was not as effective. He gave up five runs on seven hits through 5 2/3 innings and fell to 10-8 on the season.
The only Brewer runs came on a two run homer from Rowdy Tellez in the 7th inning. It was his 32nd long ball of the season.
Milwaukee falls 2 1/2 games behind the idle Phillies and Padres in the wild card chase.
The Brewers and Mets will battle again Tuesday night with pregame coverage on WHBL beginning at 6:05.
